Sure, I just don't want to carry so much equipment. If possible, I'd like to rent it directly. May I know how much the total rental fee at the ski resort is ?

Your question is not very rigorous, I will tell you all. Skiing is divided into North Island and South Island. If you just want to play around and try it out on the North Island, there is an indoor ski slope called Snowplanet in Auckland, 30 minutes drive away. There are super discount packages after 6pm, see https://snowplanet.co.nz/auckland-night-activities/#welcome-winter-nights. $32 per person including equipment (sled + boots). If you feel that the indoor one is not interesting, you must go outdoors. There is a mountain called Mt Ruapehu in the central part of the North Island. There are two ski resorts there, with the same price. The beginner lift pass is 89+rental equipment 49, and you may need to spend money renting a helmet. See https://www.mtruapehu.com/turoa/packages/ecom-1009 for details. I will go here because it is around 0 degrees Celsius even in the coldest weather, and the roads around the mountain will be very cold, but they will not freeze. The roads leading to the mountain will freeze, but the staff will spread salt, so there is no need to worry about anti-skid chains for the car.
