If you don't have an international credit card, you can still be an additional driver as long as you have a driver's license. People with international credit cards can rent cars.

It's best not to; if there is a collision, the insurance company will not compensate.

It was surprising to find out at a gas station in Carson City that they explicitly did not accept VISA credit cards and had to use a MasterCard.
