Highway 1 has signals throughout, while Big Sur does not. But it's just one big road with signs. There are also information booths at the various scenic areas. You won't usually get lost.

Rent one from a car rental agency or domestically. I brought my own Garmin over by spending 5 yuan to download the North American map on Taobao, which is also very useful. Google Maps is also an option, but I haven't tried the offline version. As for navigation, just follow Highway 1. If you encounter road repairs, it will help you choose a new route after detouring, so don't worry.
