Hi everyone, may I ask if being able to listen and speak some basic English is enough for use in the South Island ?

Many Chinese staff speak Mandarin, there are also Chinese gift shops. Local people can also understand our Asian accent as we speak slowly, they just speak very fast sometimes, sometimes we don't understand.

Should be enough, but it's okay if you can understand it.
