We didn't go to the Statue of Liberty last year when we were in New York, because many people said it was too crowded to get close to it and that you couldn't see much from the top. So instead we took a ferry from Battery Park in Manhattan to Staten Island, which goes past the Statue of Liberty and you can get some great photos. The ferry to and from Staten Island is free.
