For those who are Road trip on the road or returning from Road trip, is it reliable to book accommodations 1-2 days in advance for a Road trip around the island ?

It's best to book in advance, otherwise not only is it hard to book, it's also very expensive.

There are not many hotels in Iceland, so it is not guaranteed that you will be able to book one, and if you do manage to book one, the prices will be much higher.
