On October 7th, Beijing came through customs checks on luggage going through machines. It is suggested that valuable items be placed in small luggage. Customs officers screen based on experience, so psychological quality must be good. Gather your courage, remove the tags, and don't put them in the same box. Be brave and go through. Alternatively, choose to return on an early morning flight, as customs officers will also be dozing off. The inspection is based on the customs officer's mood and judgment of you, and there is no fixed rule. Five years ago at Hongqiao Airport, returning from the US, there were four bags in the suitcase, and the luggage was also released after inspection. It is difficult to make a generalization.

Yesterday we flew directly from the US to Hong Kong airport and took a boat to Shenzhen Shekou for customs clearance. It was around 10am and dozens of people on the boat cleared customs in a matter of minutes without any customs officers inspecting or opening anyone's luggage.
