Excuse me, do you need to buy a bus card when you don't drive in the downtown areas of Sydney and Melbourne? Which one is suitable ?

These two major cities have only a few square kilometers in the city center, and it's too troublesome to drive and park, so it's better to abandon the car. Sydney only has one free city loop bus, but it stops running in the evening. The subway, buses, and ferries are quite comprehensive and can reach any attraction. It's very convenient to buy a card.
In Melbourne's central district, there are free trams. Outside the central district, payment is required. Prepaid cards can be bought at stations. I'm not sure about Sydney.
