Inform the rental car company that you need to cross the border, and ask if they charge a fee and how much. In March, I rented a car from Alamo at Frankfurt Airport and needed to cross the border into Switzerland, Italy, and France multiple times. The rental car company charged me 50 euros for crossing borders and islands.

There is no extra charge at all for cross-border travel! The rental company will give you a list of countries you can go to. If the country you want to go to, such as the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, etc., is not on the list, you must tell the rental company and ask them to add the insurance. However, if they ask you to buy additional insurance, do not buy it. They are tricking you into buying more insurance again, which is unnecessary!
