The fees charged by the homestay include many fees, especially high cleaning fees. Hotels may choose to give tips if they wish, especially Fairmont.

In Canada, you only need to tip when eating out. Tips are usually around 15%.

Hotel is on the house, meals are 15% Tip is required for dine-in, not for takeout. Tips are usually based on the pre-tax amount, e.g. a $100 dinner with 12% tax would be $112 in total, so the tip would be 15% of $100, not 15% of $112. Services such as luggage delivery to your room or valet parking are usually $10-$15, it's best to ask the hotel front desk to see what their policy is. Activities like valet parking that happen frequently don't necessarily require a tip every time. If it's convenient, ask a few different hotels on the street and compare. Most restaurants have a tip option built into their card machines, so just choose the percentage you want to pay when you check out. So it's recommended to use a card to pay for dining services.

If you stay in a hotel, it's best to leave five dollars or two dollars on the bedside. For homestays, you should see if someone cleans it every day. Generally, homestay hotels provide this service, but it's not necessary for BNB.

Dining is required in the hotel, but accommodation is not needed.
