The road with three-digit number may not be bad. The roads with three-digit number in the west are paved better than the Highway 1. Ask the local hotel owner.

From the geyser to Vik, either take 35 to turn 1, or take 30 to turn 1. 35 is far, but it goes through Crater Lake. 30 is closer. The road conditions are good. Our two cars just walked these two roads separately.
