Now you don't need to, it's cooler at night and in the morning, so bring your jacket and a thick shirt.

Don't need down jacket, I went there in early May, and I didn't wear down jacket either, just normal fleece and a windbreaker were enough. The weather there is changeable, sometimes it will snow, but it's not too cold.
