Monterey Carmel would be great too! It's really close. Consider staying in Solvang for the second night. It's quite beautiful.

17 miles is better to walk in the evening, and there is usually heavy fog in the morning. The clouds will only dissipate after 10 o'clock, or even after noon. It's not so nice to look at the fog. Choose to stay where the accommodation is cheaper, and the rich are at your disposal.
