It is suggested to stay in Apollo Bay at night on the first day of the two-day itinerary.

Depends on when you leave. If you leave in the morning, Apollo Bay. We picked up the car at 4:00 pm and stayed in Geelong. We stayed in Apollo Bay the next day because we were not familiar with the car and drove slowly on the first day.
