I just came back from the Grand Canyon in November, going to the South Rim. It's managed by the National Park Service. I stayed in Tusayan for one night. The first afternoon I watched the sunset, got up early the next day to watch the sunrise. The Grand Canyon can be walked down to the Colorado River. It's about three hours one way, and there are places to walk into. Any car is fine. It's 35 dollars per car, and there are parking spaces inside. Some viewpoints can only be reached by shuttle. I remember in winter the red line doesn't allow Road trip up. You have to take the shuttle. The earliest shuttle is at 6 o'clock, so you can catch the sunrise at Hopi Point. I didn't know I couldn't self-drive, so I saw the sunrise at another viewpoint. As for snow, there is information on the Grand Canyon National Park website about whether it is temporarily closed. If it's not mentioned, it's not closed.
