It is better to have an experienced driver to drive the whole journey, because if you only play in the South Island, the road conditions are good and there is no problem. But if you go around the island, there are many mountain roads, and occasionally there will be fog with visibility of 10 meters. The west side of the Fiordland Peninsula has strong crosswinds, so it is not recommended for beginners to drive.
