10 years Road trip in Italy does not require embassy certification, as long as a notarized translation is provided. I'm not sure if the policy has changed now ?

Previously, it also required notarization. Now, it only requires authentication for 380 yuan, and it takes 10 working days.

Now, it is legal to drive in Italy only if you have a translated document issued by the diplomatic or consular mission.
