There is no charge for leaving San Francisco to the north, but there is a fee for returning. I couldn't find any staff at the toll booth, so I had to write down the payment website and paid it when I got back to the hotel that day! Try not to delay, otherwise, like the brother above, the information will be passed on to the car rental company, and you will end up paying twice, as the car rental company will also charge you again!
