I consulted with someone about the car space issue for a road trip in the western United States with 4 adults and 2 children. We have one large suitcase and three small ones. Will a Mercedes GLS, Chevrolet Tahoe, and GMC Yukon, all full-size SUVs, be enough? Or should we just go with the Chevrolet Tahoe ?

Suburban, the GLS seats six people and has a small luggage space in the back, not sure about the other two...

Still feel like a full-size 7-seater is more secure.

I was in the same time slot as you and rented a Nissan Pathfinder. I went to see the actual car, and you can fit 2 large suitcases (28-30 inches) in the back when all three rows of seats are occupied. Small suitcases can be stacked on top of each other, and if that's not enough, you can fold down one of the third-row seats.
