I agree, the return point of San Francisco International Airport is completely unmarked and not in the airport building. You need to drive out of the airport onto the highway, then turn right onto the highway to see the signs. And the signs are very unclear. We speak English fluently, but we had to ask the staff at the airport to find it. It took us about 1 hour, so friends who are rushing to catch a flight need to manage their time well.
