In Austria, I only used a chip card. I don't know if it's possible to use a magnetic stripe.

Best, most places don't accept magnetic stripe cards except for most people's luxury stores. And most prepare two different chip cards from different banks. I've tried some machines that can't swipe a card from a certain bank
