Don't need nor should live in the ice hotel, there's not much scenic spots around, between Banff and Jasper. The big foot vehicle is an inherent project on the ice field, you need to take the shuttle bus after you buy the ice field ticket. There's about half an hour on the ice field, you can wear thin down jacket, otherwise it's cold enough.
