Not so cold. This is a marine climate. It's relatively warm as long as the sun is out. It gets cold immediately when there's no sun. Queenstown and places like that in the mountains are colder than Christchurch. Christchurch is usually around 6 to 7 degrees Celsius, up to 12 to 13 degrees Celsius. But it's still quite cold. Down jackets are a must.
