Introduction
The Saint-Eilair Church is one of the most popular landmarks among archaeology enthusiasts in Poitiers, located slightly away from the city center. The church was already enormous in size in the 11th century, with wooden ceilings in all three naves, serving as lodgings for pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. However, in the 12th century, the church suffered severe damage from a fire and was subsequently rebuilt with a stone dome added, although the width of the naves had to be reduced.
