Introduction

During the 17th and 18th centuries, the city of Campeche was constructed as an important commercial hub. Due to frequent pirate attacks, locals built strong city walls to protect the city. These walls have been preserved and now serve as the main military structures of the city. The walls include two fortresses, seven watchtowers, and three battlements, all of which represent the most iconic symbols of Campeche.
