Introduction

The Oxford Museum of the History of Science is located in an ancient building with a long history dating back to 1683, and is also the former location of the Ashmolean Museum. Since 1924, the museum has had a dual mission - to study the history of science and to study the development of western culture and collections. The museum is three stories tall and houses tens of thousands of pieces, including all aspects of the history of science from ancient times to the early 20th century. The collection is extremely diverse, particularly regarding astronomical instruments such as astrolabes, sundials, and quadrant dials, as well as early mathematical tools, optical instruments, and devices related to chemistry, natural philosophy, and medicine. In addition, the museum has a library dedicated to the history of science, which collects many precious handwritings, photographs, and other items.
