Heriot-Watt University is a UK national university with a history of over 100 years, located on the outskirts of Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland. Founded in 1821, the university has grown and developed continuously, and in 1966, it was granted a royal charter and officially became a university. The university's name was chosen to honor two Scottish pioneers who made outstanding contributions in the field of technology. These two developers were George Heriot, founder of the Royal Bank of Scotland, and James Watt, pioneer of steam power research.
