Introduction

Holyrood Palace is now the official residence of the Queen and the Royal Family in Scotland. Built in 1498, this beautiful Baroque palace is closely linked to Scotland's rich history. Holyrood Palace is most famous for being the residence of Mary Queen of Scots. During her turbulent reign, many dramatic scenes unfolded here. Mary Queen of Scots held two great weddings at Holyrood Palace and witnessed the assassination of her private secretary, David Rizzio, by her second husband, Lord Darnley, at a small dinner party in the palace. Nearby Holyrood Park is a vast expanse perfect for a stroll.
