Basilica di Sant'Ambrogio, A Timeless Sanctuary of Serene Faith

Piazza Sant'Ambrogio, 15 20123 Milan

Introduction

The Church of St. Ambrose, built from 379 to 386, is a historic church. Its builder, St. Ambrose, also built three to four other churches around Milan and chose to be buried here. In addition, the church also contains the burial sites of many martyrs persecuted by Rome and Emperor Louis II (825-875). However, due to multiple renovations, the exact location of St. Ambrose's burial in the church's crypt cannot be found. After multiple renovations and reconstructions, the church took on a Romanesque style in the 12th century, but the nave, two aisles, and apse remained consistent with their original construction.
