Introduction

The Baptistry of St. John, located on the Cathedral Square in Florence, is an important religious building. It is a Second-Class Pontifical Temple, subordinate to the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella, and is one of the oldest surviving buildings in Florence, dating back to the 11th century. The Baptistry is located on the west side of the Cathedral and is a church specifically designed for baptism ceremonies; its location is directly opposite the main entrance of the Cathedral.
