Introduction

Located on a mountain near Madrid, the Valley of the Fallen is a Catholic cathedral and monument constructed by Franco. The cathedral, which stands at an altitude of 910 meters, and the 150-meter-high monument were built in memory of those who died in the Spanish Civil War. The entire construction took 18 years before it was unveiled in 1959 and is considered a masterpiece of 20th-century Spanish architecture.
