Introduction

Beethoven's former residence is located at BONNGASSE 20, north of Bonn City Hall, just a 10-minute walk from the train station. When this historic house faced the threat of demolition in 1889, 12 citizens of Bonn decided to buy it and establish the current memorial museum to commemorate the great musician. The exterior of the residence is similar to the surrounding houses and may require careful searching to find. Beethoven was born here and spent the first 22 years of his life here. The residence has 11 exhibition rooms that meticulously display Beethoven's life experiences. Today, the interior of the residence serves as a memorial museum showcasing Beethoven's artifacts, documents, and portraits. Among the exhibits, the sheet music for his Symphony No. 6 "Pastoral" and piano sonata "Moonlight" are precious treasures that classical music enthusiasts should not miss. This is a witness to the life journey of a great musician and a place where the local people express their deep nostalgia and respect for Beethoven.
