Introduction

The Schafbergbahn, a small train, has gained fame since its opening in 1893 for its appearance in the movie "The Sound of Music," where Maria and the children go on an outing. Today, this train is still pulled by steam locomotives (built in 1992 and 1995) or traditional diesel locomotives (built in 1964), traveling on a narrow-gauge railway built in 1893 along the shore of Lake Wolfgang and ascending to the summit of Schafberg at an elevation of 1783 meters. The journey takes 35 minutes, offering tourists an ultimate journey to a paradise. The first train in summer departs at 9:15, with subsequent departures at 10:00. The train consists of only two wooden carriages, adding a nostalgic and fun touch.
