Introduction

The Gallery of Beauties, also known as the Austrian National Gallery, consists of the Lower Belvedere and Upper Belvedere complexes. The Lower Belvedere, built in 1714, was once the summer palace of Prince Eugene; while the Upper Belvedere, completed in 1721, served as the venue for grand royal festivals. One of the most beautiful Baroque palaces in the world, it is now home to the Austrian National Gallery, with collections ranging from the Middle Ages to the 21st century, with a focus on masterpieces by Austrian painters from the late 19th century and the period of the Art Nouveau movement, showcasing the iconic work "The Kiss" by Gustav Klimt, founder of the Vienna Secession. Additionally, the Baroque-style Marble Hall in the Lower Belvedere houses many important exhibits, including works by masters of Romanticism and late Gothic altarpieces such as Michael Pacher, Lucas Cranach the Elder, and Conrad Laib.
