Introduction

The National Gallery's collection of oil paintings has been highly praised in Europe. Particularly notable are the works of Jack Butler Yeats, with over 30 paintings housed in the Yeats Room at the back of the gallery. Jack Butler Yeats, brother of the renowned poet William Butler Yeats, is one of the most important 20th-century painters in Ireland. Another highlight of the gallery is the painting "The Taking of Christ" (1602) by Italian artist Caravaggio. Despite the absence of explicit lighting, the faces and armors of the figures remain clearly visible, showcasing Caravaggio's mastery of chiaroscuro. Such valuable collections should not be missed.
