Introduction

Wat Suthep, located in the gardens of Doi Suthep, is a must-visit in the Lanna Thai dynasty dating back to the 14th century. Inside the temple, there is the largest bronze Buddha statue in Thailand and magnificent architecture. The main hall has a three-tiered roof, and there are large and small pagodas behind it, housing the ashes of the Thai king. The giant bell-shaped pagoda is similar to those from the Sukhothai period and serves as a memorial to the monk Mahathera Sumana, who came from Sri Lanka to teach and reside in Chiang Mai. It is also a favorite spot for photographers, especially during sunset. Every year from April 13th to 14th, Wat Suthep holds a large religious celebration.
