Introduction
There is a natural cave on Saipan Island with a clear spring in front of the entrance. The cave is decorated with crosses and images of the Virgin Mary. According to a beautiful legend, in ancient times during the dry season, the local chieftain of Saipan Island would sacrifice ten men each year by beheading them in a forbidden area to pray for rain. The family of the deceased would feel honored, but this tradition was cruel and heartless. Until a missionary arrived on Saipan Island and was determined to change this tradition. He reached an agreement with the chieftain and the tribe that he would find a freshwater spring within one year. If successful, the people had to believe in miracles and have faith in Catholicism. If he were to fail, it would anger the rain god and the missionary would be beheaded in the forbidden area. After a challenging exploration, the missionary finally discovered the freshwater source in front of the cave with the guidance of the Virgin Mary.
