Introduction

After Hideyoshi Toyotomi unified Japan, he built Osaka Castle to showcase his power. The castle took three years to complete and was finished in 1593. However, it was destroyed by Tokugawa Ieyasu's army in 1615. After reconstruction, Osaka Castle was again damaged by the Tokugawa shogunate during the Meiji Restoration. The current Osaka Castle was reconstructed in 1931 using concrete and was restored in 1997. The castle houses a rich collection of exhibits about Hideyoshi Toyotomi and Osaka.
