Introduction

Nyenchen Tanglha Range is one of the major mountain ranges spanning central and eastern Tibet, with its main peak Nyenchen Tanglha reaching a height of 7,111 meters. To its northwest lies Namtso Lake. At the southern foot of the mountains lies a region called Yangbajing, which boasts abundant geothermal resources and numerous hot springs. According to legend, Nyenchen Tanglha is one of the most important protector deities in the northern Tibetan region, revered by practitioners of Bon and Buddhism. It is said to be an ideal place for meditation and gatherings, as well as a place for practitioners to achieve enlightenment. Legend has it that Namtso Lake and Nyenchen Tanglha were a couple deeply in love living on the beautiful northern Tibetan plateau, relying on and caring for each other. However, one day Nyenchen Tanglha left home to search for cattle and sheep and met the charming and beautiful girl Yamdrok Lake on another grassland. He was attracted by her beauty and forgot his identity and family, falling in love with her. Meanwhile, his wife Namtso Lake worried about him and, unable to bear the pain, eventually turned into a lake. Nyenchen Tanglha eventually remembered his love for his wife, feeling deeply guilty and eager to return home, but found Namtso Lake had turned into a lake. From then on, he guarded the lake, eventually turning into a handsome snow mountain, waiting day and night by her side. Yamdrok Lake also turned into a beautiful lake, accompanying them in mutual support.
