Introduction

The Shandan Military Horse Farm, located in Shandan County, Zhangye City, is 130km away from the city center and 50km from the county town. Founded by Huo Qubing, the horse farm has a long history of over 2100 years and is one of the oldest and largest horse farms in the world. Many old movies such as "Herdsman" and "Princess Wencheng" were filmed here. The terrain of the horse farm is flat and the vegetation is lush. In summer, the green grass is like a carpet, while in winter, it turns golden. It has become an ideal place for horse breeding and growth. As early as more than 3000 years ago, horses were raised here. Since the Western Han Dynasty, the local Mongolian horses and various imported good horses from the Western Regions have been hybridized and bred into the famous Shandan horses. The total, first, second, third, and fourth fields of the horse farm all have their own unique features, among which the first and third fields have beautiful scenery and many horses. Along the way, you can see large fields of rapeseed flowers, which bloom from mid-to-late July to early August, similar to Qinghai Lake and Minle County, Gansu. Various small flowers on the grassland bloom respectively during the months of June, July, and August.

All day (January 1 - December 31, Monday-Sunday) Tips: Open all day, currently only accepting visitors on foot or horseback, motor vehicles cannot enter. Due to the weather conditions in the scenic area, the situation may change frequently, it is recommended to call the scenic area before going to inquire whether it is open as usual.

Transportation

【Bus】 1. Zhangye - Shandan: Take a bus from Zhangye West Bus Station to Shandan, the distance is 66 km, the journey takes 1 hour, the fare is 12.5 yuan/person. Buses are frequent between 7:00-14:50, every 20 minutes; from 15:40-19:00, every 10 minutes. 2. Shandan - Junma Yichang: There is only one bus from Shandan County to Junma Yichang, the first bus departs at 9:00 in the morning and returns at 13:20 in the afternoon, with a 4-hour journey. 3. Wuwei - Junma Yichang: One bus departs at 12:30 noon every day. 4. Shandan - Junma Sanchang: There is one bus from Shandan to Sanchang at 15:30, and two buses around 16:00. The journey takes 1-2 hours; it is important to ask before boarding the 16:00 bus if it stops at the specific destination. Alternatively, you can take a bus from Shandan to Huocheng and then take a taxi to Sanchang for around 70 yuan. The price for chartering a bus from Zhangye to Sanchang is about 400 yuan. 【Self-driving】 Junma Ranch is located in the south of Shandan County, about 100 kilometers south along G227 National Highway, turning left and driving straight ahead. 【Charter】 The price for chartering a car from Zhangye to Junma Sanchang is about 400 yuan.
