Introduction

The Meng Jiangnu Temple, also known as the Temple of Virtuous Maidens, is located on Fenghuang Mountain in the east of Shanhaiguan City and is said to have been built before the Song Dynasty. The story of Meng Jiangnu is one of the four great folk legends in China, and she is admired and praised for her loyalty. The temple was built to commemorate her sacrifice. The current Meng Jiangnu Temple is built in the architectural style of the Ming Dynasty, with a slope trail made of 108 stone steps in front. In the center of the temple is a clay statue of Meng Jiangnu, wearing light-colored clothes and a sad expression, which makes people feel the bitterness and heartache she experienced when she searched for her husband for thousands of miles. The temple park contains twenty scenes, with the legend of "Meng Jiangnu crying down the Great Wall in search of her husband" as the mainline. Visitors can enjoy sights such as "making cold clothes at night", "ten thousand men building the wall", "lookout stone for a husband", and "crying down the Great Wall".
