Introduction

Ulun Danu Temple is a temple built in 1663, located on the banks of Lake Bratan in Bali, mainly dedicated to the Balinese water goddess Dewi Danu. The spectacular scenery of this temple can be seen on the back of Indonesian rupiah banknotes, combining Hindu and Buddhist styles. The temple has 11 tiered merus, representing a very high status. People come here to pray for the goddess's blessings to ensure sufficient water sources for a good harvest. At the entrance to the water temple, you can see the guardian gods standing on both sides of the gate, representing the complete world of good and evil. On the left side of the gate, you can first see the Buddhist stupa, followed by an 11-tiered temple and another seven-tiered temple dedicated to the god Brahma. In addition, the two temples dedicated to the water goddess must be entered by boat.
