Introduction

The Bandula Park, located near the small Golden Pagoda, was built to commemorate the Burmese national hero Mahabandoola. Bandula was a remarkable figure in the Anglo-Burmese War, repelling the British army multiple times, but unfortunately met a heroic death in a fierce battle in 1825. The park also features the Independence Monument of Myanmar. Yangon citizens often gather in the park during leisure time to experience the local cultural atmosphere. A stroll around the park and its surrounding areas can provide a deep insight into the local way of life. Admission is free.
