Introduction

Located at the southeastern foot of the Mandalay Hill, this temple was built in 1866 by King Mindon to commemorate his murdered brother. Passing through the gate and the long corridor, there is a golden stupa in the center, which houses the ashes of King Mindon's brother, King Kanaung. The golden Buddha statue standing above the stupa is said to have been brought by King Mindon from the ancient city of Amarapura during the relocation of the capital. There is also a small golden stupa in the temple, and around the large golden stupa, a square extends with 758 white stupas, forming a white square. Each white stupa is adorned with a golden bell, and when the wind blows, the sound of the bells seems to be king Mindon expressing his grief to his brother.
