Introduction

Huaguangyan Scenic Area is located in the southwest suburbs of Zhanjiang and is one of the southernmost scenic areas in mainland China. In September 2006, UNESCO approved the site as a World Geopark. Here, you can experience unique architecture in Leizhou Peninsula and enjoy the beautiful scenery. The area consists of a volcanic crater lake and a lava field, which were formed approximately 200,000 years ago. Huaguangyan is one of the three remaining volcanic lakes in China, and the only maar lake in the world, more enticing than the Manderscheid in Germany! The lake is fed by natural underground caves and has the ability to self-clean, which prevents it from drying up even during droughts or floods. It is worth noting that the lake does not have common aquatic animals such as frogs or snakes, and fallen leaves are not seen in the lake. It is said that there is a dragonfish and a sacred turtle living in the lake, and they have saved people who have fallen in. The temperature in the lake is always three degrees lower than the outside, adding a mysterious atmosphere to Huaguangyan.
