Dear car friend, I have a question. Do I need to pay a transit fee when I rent a car from Madrid, Spain to Lisbon, Portugal, and then to Seville, Spain? If so, how much is the transit fee? Also, I heard that the Portuguese highway 'Via Verde' has a toll collection system that requires renting an electronic device. Can the car rental company in Madrid, Spain provide this device ?

Car rental in Seville in 2017. Going to and from Portugal was early in the morning and late at night, and no electronic toll was found. All were self-service card payments. The car rental was Eurrocar.

Madrid's car dealerships do not provide Portuguese via verde devices. The toll you mentioned is actually a section of the A22 expressway electronic toll, which is about 12.5 euros for a small car.

Last year I drove a car rented from Avis in Portugal and Spain. There were no border fees, and I could pay by coin or card at the toll booths on the expressway. The two countries are quite chaotic. The glass in the indoor parking lot in Porto was broken when I was there, but luckily there was no loss. It's best to park in places with a lot of people. When I drove last year, the car provided by Avis did not have an electronic toll device. You can confirm with the car rental company again when you pick up the car. This is not a big deal. Apart from a small queue when entering and exiting the city during rush hour, there are basically no cars during other times, and the payment is also very fast.
