Not sure about the additional fee, but still suggest returning the car at the airport store.

I consulted Europcar, and it costs +30 euros to return the car to any non-rental location in Germany (I'm not sure if I need to mention it in advance). I used Sixt as well, but I made an appointment for out-of-town return from the beginning. I'm not sure which company's car you're using.
