Rent a car, but the two drivers take turns driving. Do I need to tell the car rental company about this? If an accident occurs, it is not the person who signed the rental contract who is driving, but a traveling companion. Will this affect the claim ?

In France, only the renter can drive. If anyone else drives and is in an accident, the insurance will not cover it. However, you can go to the store or online to add an additional driver, which is extra charge, and the cost varies by the car rental company, but I think it's generally quite expensive.
